Our Anchor in the Midst of Unchartered Territory

Posted on March 19, 2020
This season has been one of change, that’s for sure. With the world going through COVID-19, the fear in people rising, and the closings of schools, churches, and many other places), we are in a place that most have not seen before.
Here are a few things I’ve learned as I’ve been meditating on 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18:

1.Be joyful in all things (vs 16)

This is an active choice we make. Yes, this changes how we do life, and we cannot wait for normalcy; yet, even in these times, we can be joyful because we have hope in the Lord.

2.Be in Prayer (vs 17)

Pray for the world, our country, the leaders of our country, our family and friends, our church, the people who are in the front lines and do not have the luxury of working from home…

3.Be thankful in all circumstances (vs 18)

There is so much to be grateful for. Aside from the obvious (yet, not so obvious things) such as housing, clothes, food, etc., it is important to be extra grateful for the people we do life with everyday. Yes, you might step on each other’s toes, and our sinful nature might permeate more often, and yet, we are called to love. Be thankful for these times with those you’re “quarantined” with.
We do not want to be paralyzed by fear; yet, we want to be prudent and wise. Let us do our part protecting those around us, never ceasing to bring glory to God!
